RUET IPE Day-2019 celebrated enthusiastically

Apparel Correspondent :Industrial and Production Engineering Day (IPE Day 2019) of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology has been celebrated successfully. The two-day event was held on July 18 and 19 with participation of students, teachers and professionals of the country’s industrial and production engineering disciplines.

RUET Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh formally inaugurated the programme as chief guest. IPE Department organised the programme with the direct supervision of Head of the IPE Department, Professor Dr. Mosharraf Hossain. Hundreds of present and former students of IPE Department of RUET created an atmosphere of joy as they reunite after six long years. The last IPE Day was observed in 2013.

The day’s programme began in the morning with hoisting of national flag followed by plantation of tree saplings on campus. Marking the day, a number of teachers, students and staff brought out a colourful rally that paraded through the campus. Addressing a brief speech on this occasion, VC professor Islam sought cooperation from all quarters to run the university peacefully and successfully.
The two-day event included four seminars, corporate talk, meet the professionals, career talk, business case solving competition, poster presentation, CAD competition, gaming competition, welcoming the freshers, farewell the graduates and cultural events.
One of the main attractions of this year’s RUET IPE day was the presence of some of the top personalities of the Bangladesh’s garment industry professionals, including Mr. Amit K. Biswas, DGM, Planning, IE & Coordination (Corporate) at Metro Knitting & Dyeing Mills Ltd, a sister concern of Panam Group; A K M Golam Morshed Farooq, CEO, Impress Newtex Composite Textile Ltd; Mr. Sheikh Kamal Hossain, AGM, HR & Admin at Meghna Knit Composite Ltd; Ms. Lidia Sue, CEO, as well as CK Lui, Head of Industrial Engineering, LIZ Fashions Industries Company.

They openly discussed various issues including the needs, prospects, weaknesses of IPE graduates in the garment industry of Bangladesh during the episode titled Meet the Professionals and Career Talk. Reputed professors and teachers of some of the top technology universities of Bangladesh discussed in detail the requirements and role of the IPE department in two seminars titled “Introduction to IEOM- Bangladesh Chapter and Fire Safety in High-rise Building and Industries” and “Industry Four Point Zero”.
Dr. ARM Harunur Rashid, Professor at Mechanical and Engineering department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Iqbal of Industrial Production Engineering; and Tasnim Sarwar Raad, IA Manager of Sinkos Automation Technologies Limited spoke in the seminar.
Prof. Dr. Mosharraf Hossain, Head of the IPE department of RUET presided over the inaugural session.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh said, “Everyone including the students and teachers of the university is proud because, since the inception many talented students who have passed through the IPE department of RUET have been working with high reputation at the important positions of various fields of industrial and trade arena in Bangladesh.”
He informed about the initiatives and plans taken by the university authorities for the wellbeing of the students and urged them to be more focused on education and research. He thanked eminent teachers and professionals who came to participate in the two-day event on the occasion of IPE Day-2019.
The RUET Vice Chancellor handed over the crest to the fresh students of the IPE department and formally welcomed them to the university.

After the inaugural session, business case solving competition, poster presentation, CAD competition, gaming competition were held at the academic building and auditorium of the university. The Apparel News, the media partner of the IPE Day 2019 and The Apparel News Publications participated the programme with a number of published newspapers and books like: “SWOT Analysis of RMG Sector in Bangladesh” and “Speed Up Development of Economic Zones”.

In the second session of the first day titeld ‘Meet the Professionals’ has been held where the leading professionals representing the younger generation of the apparel industry of Bangladesh, Mr. Amit K. Biswas, A K M Golam Morshed Farooq and Sheikh Kamal Hossain assembled the whole auditorium of RUET with their nice and smart presentations. Students, guests and the audiences praised the candid presentation of hard work, upbringing motivation of these three successful young professionals of Bangladesh’s RMG sector.
Amit K. Biswas, DGM, Planning, IE & Coordination (Corporate) at Metro Knitting & Dyeing Mills Ltd and Editor & Publisher of The Apparel News, said that the importance of skilled and talented professionals for industrial production engineering division of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry increasing day by day as the apparel world is experiencing an unprecedent technological advanement. He said, “In order to compete in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), it is necessary for Bangladesh to recruit talented local citizens in the industrial production engineering department of various industries. But, sadly, Bangladesh is far behind here. The people of India, Sri Lanka, China and Vietnam are earnings billions of dollars from Bangladesh in absence of skilled local IPE professionals.”
Mr. Amit suggested the RUET authority to create the required courses and curriculum for IPE students to prepare them to work in the textile and readymade garment industry arena of Bangladesh.
